WHAT IS IT
Ultrasound imaging is a way of ‘seeing’ inside the human body through the use of probes which emit sound waves and collect them to capture the tissues within.
We would often know this to be the choice for ‘seeing’ the unborn child in the pregnant mother, but this technology is also applied to image soft tissue organs such as the abdominal and pelvic organs.
Without the use of x-ray, such tests are known to be safe.
TELL ME HOW
Wear loose comfortable attire. Please fast for 6 hours if you are having an ultrasound examination of your abdomen and liver. Please drink lots of water and avoid going to the toilet prior to an ultrasound of the pelvis and prostate.
Light gel will be placed on the area to be examined. Our radiographer will move a probe gently over the area for about 15-20 minutes.
Your report arrives at your doctor’s office as soon as possible, comprising a hardcopy report as well as a CD of your images in softcopy.
